Child Eye & Squint

“Clear vision is the foundation for your child’s learning and growth. Give them the best start with expert, gentle eye care.”

Children often don’t complain about their vision because they think everyone sees the way they do. At Care Vision, we specialize in “kid-friendly” exams to catch issues like lazy eye or squint before they affect your child’s schoolwork or confidence.

What is it?

Pediatric eye care focuses on vision development in children. A Squint (Strabismus) is when the eyes do not look in the same direction at the same time. While some think a squint is “lucky” or will go away, it is actually a medical condition that needs correction to ensure the child develops “3D” depth perception and clear sight in both eyes.

Who is it suitable for?

  • Preschoolers: Every child should have an eye exam before starting school (age 3–5).
  • Screen Users: If your child spends a lot of time on mobile phones or tablets.
  • Warning Signs: If you notice your child squinting, tilting their head to see, sitting too close to the TV, or having eyes that “wander.”
  • School Struggles: Children who have trouble reading or complain of frequent headaches.

What does it involve?

Dr. Mukherjee uses a very patient and friendly approach to make sure the child feels safe:

  1. Kid-Friendly Testing: We use pictures, lights, and toys instead of just letters to check vision in younger children.
  2. Muscle Balance Test: Checking how well the eye muscles work together to identify a squint.
  3. Cycloplegic Refraction: Using special “relaxing” drops to get an 100% accurate power reading, as children’s eyes focus very strongly.
  4. Patching Therapy: A simple treatment for “Lazy Eye” (Amblyopia) where we strengthen the weaker eye.
  5. Squint Correction: Depending on the case, this can be managed with specialized glasses, exercises, or a minor muscle-balancing surgery.

Are there any risks?

Pediatric eye care is extremely safe and non-invasive.

  • The “Drops” Experience: The relaxing drops might make the child’s vision blurry for a few hours and make them sensitive to bright light. This is temporary and perfectly safe.
  • Surgery (if needed): Modern squint surgery is a surface-level procedure. It does not involve the inside of the eye and has a very high success rate with quick recovery.
  • The “Fun” Factor: We aim to make the clinic visit a positive experience so your child isn’t afraid of the “eye doctor” in the future.
