“Protect the ‘film’ of your eye. Advanced care for your retina is the best way to prevent permanent vision loss from diabetes and age.”

The retina is the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye that sends images to your brain. Issues here are often serious but can be managed effectively if caught early. At Care Vision, we provide the specialized testing and treatment needed to keep your retina healthy.

What is it?

The retina is like the film in a camera. If the film is damaged, the picture will be blurry no matter how good the lens is. Common problems include Diabetic Retinopathy (damage from high blood sugar), Retinal Detachment, and Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Who is it suitable for?

  • Diabetic Patients: Anyone with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes should have a retina check at least once a year.
  • Hypertensive Patients: If you have high blood pressure, your retina needs regular monitoring.
  • Sudden Vision Changes: If you see “floaters” (dark spots moving in your vision) or “flashes” of light.
  • Seniors: Those noticing a “dark spot” or distortion in the center of their vision.

What does it involve?

Dr. Mukherjee uses a combination of advanced diagnostics and medical treatments to manage retinal health:

  1. Fundus Examination: A detailed look at the back of the eye using specialized lenses to check for leaks, bleeding, or tears.
  2. Management of Diabetic Eye Disease: Helping patients with diabetes monitor and treat changes in their retinal blood vessels.
  3. Intravitreal Injections: Giving specialized medicine directly into the eye to reduce swelling or stop abnormal blood vessel growth (painless and very quick).
  4. Retinal Lasers: A precise way to “seal” leaking vessels or repair small tears before they become a major problem.
  5. Hypertension Monitoring: Checking how high blood pressure is affecting the small vessels in your eye.

Are there any risks?

Retina treatments are designed to save your sight, and the risks are very low compared to the risk of doing nothing.

  • Dilation: Your eyes will be dilated for the exam, so your vision will be blurry for a few hours. Please bring someone to help you get home.
  • Injections: While the idea sounds scary, the procedure is done with numbing drops and is usually over in seconds with very little discomfort.
  • Observation: The biggest risk is waiting too long. Retinal issues often don’t cause pain, so regular check-ups are your best defense.
